Elder and Sister Hales

 


I cannot imagine fulfilling this assignment without the training we are receiving from the Hales!! We have some mighty big shoes to fill! They have been so fun and patience and such amazing teachers. Too much to learn in just a few days. We will really miss them when they go home next week!

Hal’s responsibilities include the finances, housing, and vehicles.

My responsibilities include immigration, correspondence,  and travel. And feeding missionaries at district and zone meetings.

The elephant in this picture was made from bottle caps by a local street vender. The artisan also made a huge gecko (about 8 feet long) and a butterfly which will stay with the apartment. The Hales are having the elephant shipped home.

D&C 84:88    Eleven missionaries were traveling from Malawi to Lusaka, Zambia, in two separate vehicles on 2 January 2023. It was about 1:00-1:30 in the afternoon; it was raining so the roads were a little bit slick, even though it was very warm. They were coming around a curve when an oncoming car was in their lane. Elder Masengere swerved to avoid a head on collision. The side of the road had a small embankment, large enough that it flipped the Ford Ranger over that five missionaries were in.                                         Jessica wrote, “We held a “surprise” party in the construction zone of our house. 😂. It was the only way we could keep the secret of my parents getting a mission call. Everyone was surprised. I’m  the only one who knew it was coming cause I saw a letter one day early in January on the kitchen table. So I planned the party😁. I made the puzzle map of the U.S. cause me and my parents thought it would definitely be a states mission. But…they are going to Zambia (in Africa)😅. I don’t know who is going to be more shell shocked- my mom or my dad. If you know my mom, she does not like big adventures away from home. This will definitely be the ride of their life!”

Lots of good-byes

Starphel made going away matching clothes for Hal and I. She did a nice job on choosing the fabric! She was simply beaming when she saw we wore them to church today! After speaking in one Sacrament meeting and bearing our testimonies (by invitation) in the other ward we took advantage of the one hour block and took lots of pictures. The Quero family...well, at least some of them. Brother Quero, Kevin and Lianah. Lianah is preparing paper work for going on a mission. Sister Quero and their other daughter, Shaniah, are still in the Philippines.   Jennifer, one of my piano students who quit coming because of the conflict of time because of her school. Peter and Brenda (currently taking missionary lessons with their mother) and Margaret...another of my piano students who quit coming. Brother Lord and his family.
