First Impressions

 

  



First impressions:

  1. Things are old: the housing, the cars, the infrastructure. Even though the airport terminal is new (within this past year) it still looks like an old building.
  2. People try to be helpful and they are kind and friendly.
  3. Driving is intense! Left hand lane! A lot of walkers!
  4. Very clean! No trash on the streets, except old run down, not drivable cars. People sweep the streets. Our places of living are very clean!
  5. Blow dryers knock out power. I’ll have to plan ahead when fixing my hair.

D&C 84:88    Eleven missionaries were traveling from Malawi to Lusaka, Zambia, in two separate vehicles on 2 January 2023. It was about 1:00-1:30 in the afternoon; it was raining so the roads were a little bit slick, even though it was very warm. They were coming around a curve when an oncoming car was in their lane. Elder Masengere swerved to avoid a head on collision. The side of the road had a small embankment, large enough that it flipped the Ford Ranger over that five missionaries were in. Elder Masengere, Elder Wantoe, Elder Church, Sister Ward, and Sister Keitirile. The flipped car did not roll, but spun around and slid on its top on the pavement. The on coming car just sped away! The other missionaries traveling in the van was close behind and saw the accident. They quickly got out of their vehicle to assist. They helped Elder

                                        Jessica wrote, “We held a “surprise” party in the construction zone of our house. 😂. It was the only way we could keep the secret of my parents getting a mission call. Everyone was surprised. I’m  the only one who knew it was coming cause I saw a letter one day early in January on the kitchen table. So I planned the party😁. I made the puzzle map of the U.S. cause me and my parents thought it would definitely be a states mission. But…they are going to Zambia (in Africa)😅. I don’t know who is going to be more shell shocked- my mom or my dad. If you know my mom, she does not like big adventures away from home. This will definitely be the ride of their life!”

Out of the Hospital

We sent Sister Ward and Elder Church off today. Many, many mixed emotions!! They loved their missions and don't really want to go home, but they realize they need proper medical care.    Sister Ward saying good-bye to her companion, Sister Keitirile. They were companions for an entire week! Sister Keitirile had another surgery yesterday. Hopefully, her last one and soon to be released from the hospital, as well. Elder Church looking sharp in a new white shirt that we bought for him. One last incident at the hospital was when they brought wheelchairs for Elder Church and Sister Ward to use. The one Elder Church was put in was ready to fall apart. I said, "He can't use that chair! He needs a different one." Someone said to me, "They know what they are doing. It will be alright. Let them do their job." "No!" I replied. "That wheelchair is about to break!" Truly the wheels...one in front and one in back were literally ready to fall off! The n
