Piano Lessons

This is Jennifer. She is 13 and is ALWAYS smiling!! She is so excited to learn how to play the piano! This was the first time she had ever sat at a piano. Since she goes to school we had to make arrangements to do the lessons on Saturday morning. (That's our P-Day but if she will stick with it, it will be well worth the sacrifice)!!

This is Starfel. She is 18 and hoping to serve a mission soon. Both girls are very bright and eager to learn! The girls have to walk about one hour to come to the mission office to have their lessons.

Elder Kasozi, an amazing missionary from Uganda, wants to be able to play the piano for his ward when he goes back home. He found a copy of  the "Keyboard Course" that the church puts out, so he knew a few things before I started giving him instructions. He chose to learn "Away In A Manger" first. That's probably a good idea because he goes home in December.

Another note (no pun intended) about Elder Kasozi is that he is a master scriptorian!!! He can quote scriptures and know where they are in any of the standard works like no one I've ever seen! He is currently serving as one of Assistants to the President, so he is at the office more than other missionaries.

Elder Hugh W. Pinnock, formerly of the First Quorum of the Seventy, once said, "In a lifetime, each member can become a spiritual scriptorian instead of remaining a scriptural simpleton." Elder Kasozi is an excellent example of a spiritual scriptorian! He has been a member of the church only 3 years!

The first Sunday we were here, the Hale's informed the Bishop's of both wards that I could play the piano...I've been doing it every Sunday since. After a couple of weeks I had people from both wards ask if I would teach them how to play. So here we are....

MUSIC ON A  TYPICAL SUNDAY

Normally, the person leading (seldom does the same person do it two weeks in a row) the music in Sacrament Meeting would sing the first line of the hymn so everyone would know the pitch, tempo and tune. And then everyone would join in the singing.

Be prepared, for you never know when you will be called on to lead the music...even if you are a visitor!!!

I am not great at the piano but maybe I can teach them a few basics.
