It's a Feast! Not Thanksgiving though!

  

Missionaries LOVE to EAT!!!! They are always hungry and they don't really care about WHAT they eat, as long as it is eatable!!
                 

The Lusaka Youth Center has been a place we have had many meals catered for Zone Conferences, new missionary day, Missionary Leadership Counsel, and etc. This is the place that the church did a humanitarian project and built a bakery and furnished equipment for this kitchen. The people there have been very accommodating and easy to work with, even though they are not super punctual! When we went to pick up the food it was at least 110 degrees in there! No air conditioning, no fans, just a couple of windows that opened, but there was not a breeze! It was well into the 90's this day, but they went about their work with smiles, nevertheless!

  

                   They even furnish REAL plates and they wash them when we return them! Fruit trays and potato salad. Since the place we cater from is a school, they do not deliver.  So we have to go a pick everything up and return it.   

                                                   

This was macaroni and cheese with Nshima on top (almost looks like Shepherd's Pie). And since they didn't provide enough eating utensils, I had to us a knife. It worked! LOL
I have now created a bag that has extra things we might need...like garbage bags, a towel to wash things off with, extra utensils, paper plates, plastic wrap. There are kitchens in the buildings but NO supplies of any kind, including no refrigerators or stoves. (Theft is a huge problem so they simple don't put them in!)

Elder Kakaire is one of the Assistants and this was his last Zone Conference because he goes home next week (8 November 2022). He is a little trunky! :) He has been an awesome missionary and will be greatly missed! As he bore his final testimony, one thing he taught us was to liken the scriptures to ourselves. He shared how he had done this as he has served in various responsibilities while serving on his mission.

D&C 84:88    Eleven missionaries were traveling from Malawi to Lusaka, Zambia, in two separate vehicles on 2 January 2023. It was about 1:00-1:30 in the afternoon; it was raining so the roads were a little bit slick, even though it was very warm. They were coming around a curve when an oncoming car was in their lane.                                         Jessica wrote, “We held a “surprise” party in the construction zone of our house. 😂. It was the only way we could keep the secret of my parents getting a mission call. Everyone was surprised. I’m  the only one who knew it was coming cause I saw a letter one day early in January on the kitchen table. So I planned the party😁. I made the puzzle map of the U.S. cause me and my parents thought it would definitely be a states mission. But…they are going to Zambia (in Africa)😅. I don’t know who is going to be more shell shocked- my mom or my dad. If you know my mom, she does not like big adventures away from home. This will definitely be the ride of their life!”

Out of the Hospital

We sent Sister Ward and Elder Church off today. Many, many mixed emotions!! They loved their missions and don't really want to go home, but they realize they need proper medical care.    Sister Ward saying good-bye to her companion, Sister Keitirile. They were companions for an entire week! Sister Keitirile had another surgery yesterday. Hopefully, her last one and soon to be released from the hospital, as well. Elder Church looking sharp in a new white shirt that we bought for him. One last incident at the hospital was when they brought wheelchairs for Elder Church and Sister Ward to use. The one Elder Church was put in was ready to fall apart. I said, "He can't use that chair! He needs a different one." Someone said to me, "They know what they are doing. It will be alright.
