Around the World

Our family continues to grow! We are now up to 114 missionaries. We started out at about 80. We have met young men and young women from 19 countries and 10 states. This group arrived on 1 February 2023. It is always a delight to meet them and to see their enthusiasm to begin their labors. Once in awhile we see a deer in the headlight look on their faces, but mostly it is simply excitement for this new adventure! Let me introduce you to these new missionaries:

Sister Kamanura from Zimbabwe.           Elder Larkin from Meridian, Idaho but                                                                                                          received his call while in Indiana. I don't know                                                                                            the story behind that. Maybe one day I will have                                                                                          the opportunity to ask. Idaho boys are some of                                                                                            the very best missionaries. That is the truth!!

Elder Chipfuwamiti (Zimbabwe), Sister Neufville (Liberia), and Elder Monareng (South Africa)

Elder Animama (Ghana), Sister Chipembere (Zimbabwe), and Elder Tukia  (Tonga)

Sister Mnguni (South Africa) and Elder Omondi (Kenya), and Sister Ang'ila (Kenya).

Elder Williams from Sierra Leone. I'm not sure if he thought he was pulling a fast one on me or not. He had this innocent look in his eyes like he did not have a clue what I was asking when I asked him if I had already taken his picture. But I ended up with three pictures of him. With the change of clothes and smile vs. no smile, I was only able to identify him by his tie!!

Sister Porter from Wyoming. This missionary who first came last August has an interesting story: Last October she was participating in a service project with her District in Malawi. She bent down to pick up a brick when her companion was coming up from picking up a brick which resulted in the brick and the head colliding, evidently causing a concussion! She became extremely light sensitive and could not tolerate any light whatsoever. She kept a blind fold on all of the time!! It was so bad that she had to go back to the states. It was learned that she had some muscle damage that could have been caused by an earlier concussion and was now manifesting itself. She had surgery. After recovering, she's back and SO EXCITED!! She has so much enthusiasm and can hardly be contained!!

And of course these two have a piece of my heart. It is hard to say good-bye to people we will most likely never see again. Sister Phekula, from South Africa, described herself in a Facebook post as being an extremely selfish person before her mission. NOT SO NOW!  She is so compassionate and loving and helpful and very sensitive to the needs of others!! She is always serving others. She was definitely an angel, serving her fellow missionaries on that day of the car accident a month ago. Makes me cry just thinking about how loving and unselfish she was! I have witnessed her unselfishness over and over!!

Sister Tafirenyika, from Zimbabwe is just the same. I have seen her so lovingly care for a companion who was not well...washing her feet...just like the Savior did in the picture behind us.
