Our Guard

Royce is one of the guards at our place of residence. She has become my friend even though I sometimes l(usually) have a hard time understanding her. Royce got married when she was 15 and has 4 children. She works the day shift here which is at least 12 hours. She is usually here longer than 12 hours! Sometimes the person who is supposed to replace her doesn’t come and she can’t leave until he comes!

We have tried to be friends with her by bringing her something to eat in the evening. She is always appreciative! She has asked to know more about the church so we have given her missionary pamphlets to read. She offered her contact information. We did not ask for it. She tells me what she has read so I know she is truly reading. The missionaries have talked to her once, I think.

She wants to get a better job. I can’t blame her! She sits all day outside. At least there is a place for her to get out of the sun and rain, if needed. I wish I could think of something that she could do that could help generate more income.

Her husband also works as a guard. They sure don’t get paid much!

Today she asked if I had a blanket for her. I’ll have to work on that. She is always bundled up from head to toe and with multiple layers so no doubt she is cold!

  1. she looks like a beautiful lady to get to know. I hope she does love learning about the gospel and will accept it eventually.
