Gizmos

 

As we have mentioned before, Elder Phelps is the financial secretary. One of his many responsibilities is to keep track of expenditures throughout the mission for housing, utilities, vehicles, etc. For some of you who operate businesses this might be an easy task. For those who operate businesses in multiple cities and countries this might be a bit more challenging. Hopefully, you know that the church is extremely particular and careful about sacred tithing funds!

While balancing the books for this past month one receipt came up missing. When we finally found it we had to determine what the purchases on the receipt were for.

Elder Phelps burst out laughing when he read "Gizmo 10pk plastic." What in the world is that????

Finally after much brain searching we concluded that "Gizmo 10pk plastic" was hangers!! Who would have thought!!

Still trying to figure out what "Bennett Re 24CM," and "Game 38LT-24MIC VTC" is. If anyone has any ideas we would appreciate a suggestion. 

"Goldenmark 3PK Terry" are dish towels. GRB Save Jumbo Pegs are clothespins. (All the missionaries have to air dry their clothes).

Oh, by the way, the money is in kwacha. So 105 kwacha for the hangers is just over $5. It is not cheap here!

    This little cutie is Mary. I didn't catch the name of the baby that is crying. When the Pease left, they asked if Elder Phelps and I could visit a couple of Humanitarian Projects to see how the work was coming along.  Yesterday we made that adventure.  The GPS pins the Pease gave us were not quite accurate (surprise, surprise). We ended up in the middle of nowhere!                                             Fortunately however, there were a couple of very nice ladies who spoke a tiny bit of English who agreed to take us to the Chinkuli school.  They, along with two young babies, climbed into the back seat of our truck (Sister Wilkinson and Sister Hatch were already in the back seat)! Angels Round About Them

  "I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up." D&C 84:88    Eleven missionaries were traveling from Malawi to Lusaka, Zambia, in two separate vehicles on 2 January 2023. It was about 1:00-1:30 in the afternoon; it was raining so the roads were a little bit slick, even though it was very warm. They were coming around a curve when an oncoming car was in their lane. Elder Masengere swerved to avoid a head on collision. The side of the road had a small embankment, large enough that it flipped the Ford Ranger over that five missionaries were in. Elder Masengere, Elder Wantoe, Elder Church, Sister Ward, and Sister Keitirile. The flipped car did not roll, but spun around and slid on its top on the pavement. The on coming car just sped away! Immigration

We got up early this morning so we could be at the immigration office by 6:00 AM! The office didn’t open until 8:00 but we came early so we could stand in this line and hopefully be one of the first to get in. Typical of government offices (we think it is bad in the US, it’s worse here), there were a lot of people (employees) standing around and only one or two people actually doing any work! I was told to go to one desk, but after standing there for a minute or so the lady “working” there looked up from her phone, glared at me, then told me to go to a different desk! Not too friendly here or maybe they just don’t love their work! Anyway, we got our permits to stay here. One of my responsibilities will be to bring the missionaries here when they come into the country and go through this same process! About once a month. Not really looking forward to this. Not the greatest picture here but oh well, it is what it is.
