Keeping Them Safe!!
We had an unusual circumstance this past week with a set of Sister Missionaries. They are two white sister missionaries. They had just come out of their gate when a car with two men pulled up and started talking to them. This, in itself, is not unusual. Missionaries always stop and talk to as many as they can. However, the men soon began saying some crude and threatening comments and made the sisters extremely uncomfortable. They quickly walked away with the comment, "I'll be back for you!" ringing in their ears.
Three problems:
*The men knew where the sister's lived.
*The electric wiring running along the top of the fence was broken.
*The sisters do not have any neighbors. They live alone in this big two story house.
The Sister's reported the incident to their Zone Leaders. He in turn called us (President Moyo and his family are out of town attending Zone and District Conferences in Malawi).
Well, I didn't like the situation at all and told Elder Phelps that they could not stay in their apartment! We brought them to our place until the President returns and a solution could be obtained. Most likely it will be that the Sister's will be moved or trade apartments with Elder's who living in a better location.
Normally, the Sister's don't usually get so frightened. There are usually many, many people near by and they get used to calls from the street. Most people are very friendly and helpful! However, there are always a few that cause problems where ever someone might live. Personally, I don't think there should be two white sisters together. We'll see how this one plays out.....
We recently learned that there are only four missions in Africa that have female white missionaries: Zambia/Malawi, Nambia/Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Cape Verde. All other places are deemed too dangerous at this time.
